The brain is considered one of the most complex areas of your body. One that is still being studied today in order to understand it further. There are ways can workout your mind just like any other muscle in your body. Even though the brain is considered an organ rather then a muscle, it can be strengthened and improved just like any other in your body. There are steps that you can take in order to work specifically on the mind. Let us go over these steps and why they are beneficial to you.

Meditation

The exercise of meditation is something that has gained more recognition in mainstream media in the last few years. As is it now very well known that there are great benefits for meditating. However, it is an exercise that is still not fully taken advantage of by most people. Meditation has been known to improve the brain's ability to process information, focus, attention span, empathy, helps deal with stress, improves cognitive resilience and improved memory just to name a few. By introducing simple 10-15 minute mindfulness meditation on a daily basis, it will only have added benefits to your brain and body.


USE YOUR NON-DOMINANT HAND

This may be one that you may not expect to think as an exercise to improve the brain. Using your non-dominant hand is known to have added benefits in brain activity. Do simple tasks as brushing your teeth, use the tv remote, mouse for the computer and eating with your opposite hand. Writing with your opposite hand daily is highly recommended for improved brain activity. Write each morning your daily manifestation to do this exercise often and take advantage of the benefits of doing this. These exercises may not necessarily be easy at first, but nothing beneficial ever is.


REGULAR PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Exercising your body has benefits to your brain. Most are under the impression that exercising your body just has benefits to the way that you look. That could not be farther from the truth. Exercising improves circulation throughout your body, produces new brain cells, stimulates production of endorphins, improve concentration, boost energy and many additional benefits. Just doing a 30 minute daily routine can have major improvements to your body. Healthy body, healthy mind.


GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Sleeping enough is necessary for body and mind. This is something that we hear ever since we are young. With sleeping being known to improve mental fatigue, regulate metabolism and boost memory recall, it is recommended for adults to get 7-9 hours of sleep daily. Most unfortunately do not get that. Get the necessary sleep and increase your brain activity.


LEARNING A NEW SKILL

Doing various brain exercises have added benefits to the brain. The brain must be worked on just like any other muscle. Learning a new skill is a great way to exercise the brain. Learning a new language, learning a new hobby, learning how to play an instrument, learning a new sport are all great exercises for the brain.


GET OUT AND SOCIALIZE

There are many benefits to socializing. One may think that socializing is just sitting down with someone and speaking with them, which on it's own does have benefits. However, socializing can include group sports, community volunteering and even joining a book club.


IN SUMMARY

There are many ways to keep your brain in good health. Learning new things produces the release of dopamine which is also known as the "motivation" neurotransmitter. This will stimulate creation of new neurons in the brain which expands your ability to learn. There is definitely no shortage of options of activities to learn to improve your brain function:

  • Regular Exercise

  • Meditation

  • Good Sleep

  • Socializing

  • Playing board games

  • Card games

  • Puzzles

  • Video games

  • Sports

  • Learn a new skill

  • Learning a new language

  • Listen to music

  • Learn to play a musical instrument

  • Dancing

Give your brain a workout. New activities that challenge you will strengthen your brain and have great benefits for you. Improve your memory, improve your focus and concentration and improve your ability to multi task. Get creative!
