Reach a Goal or Full Potential!

Updated: Apr 1, 2022

Saw a motivational video yesterday that made me think about this question. When you think about what you would like to accomplish. Isn't reaching your Full Potential way more beneficial then just reaching an individual goal? Let's talk about it.

I believe that "Full Potential" summarizes very well all aspects that we should be focusing on to reach our best selves. Happiness, self understanding, staying in positive energy, reaching your goals, etc... In a matter of speaking uplifting all surrounding aspects of your life.

“Every excuse we tell ourselves to come up with our conclusion that once we get to ______ we shall be happy.”

Like I have most of my life, we range our happiness based on our current situation or a goal we are reaching for. We just tell ourselves, I will be happy once I reach...… But why are we not happy now? Why do we feel we have reached out potential once we achieve this or once we make it to this, or once I have the money in the bank account. Every excuse we tell ourselves to come up with our conclusion that once we get to ______ we shall be happy.

How do you reach your Full Potential?

I decided to break it down in 3 simple steps as it's my thought that a few ideas that you can separate and expand on to make it a larger list ultimately fall under these 3 categories.

1. Focused Mindset

The first and I feel the most important of all which is why I choose to mention is Focused Mindset. Now, I hear you already asking, what is Focused Mindset. Most of society does not realize just how powerful our minds are. We also don't realize just how often we wake up and we are automatically thinking of something that has already happened in the past, instead of focusing on the right now, the current moment that you need to be thinking about. Your mind is somewhere else. So what does it take to achieve a Focused Mindset.

i. Positive Thinking & Positive Attitude

With everything, when in a positive vibration everything around you falls into place. Now this sounds simpler then what it actually is as we all have daily distractions that ultimately pull you from being able to stay in that positive place. Focus on self love by finding a quiet moment daily to yourself to reflect. Whether that is meditating, working out or going to church among some examples. Be in the now to enjoy the simple things in life that we forget about and we do not enjoy the moments as we should. Have a way to release your everyday challenges. Write, paint, speak to someone, or even speak to yourself in the mirror. There are ways to release all of that energy that should not be bottled in for your to be able to end your day on a good note and start your morning prepared to face each moment of the day.

ii. Have a clear picture

As I previously mentioned, people do not realize how powerful your mind is. Visualizing yourself as the person you want to be is a powerful tool that should be spoken more about. How do you want to portray yourself, how do you want to speak, how do you want to act, how do you want to dress, what job would you like to have, what car do I want to drive, what house do I want to live in, what kind of wife/husband do i want to have, what friends do I want to surround myself with, and I am sure you can think of a few more to ask yourself but you get the point. A clear picture of what you want your life to be is important. Think about it, look around to those around you and you can see that each individual is unique. What do you want your painting, clip, movie or book to look like. What do they say about you?

“A clear picture of what you want your life to be is important.”

iii. Recharge

This is one that we don't necessarily think of as important. Giving yourself a moment of clarity, break, disconnect, etc...is very important. Now listen, as I mentioned before, everyone is unique in their own way. Therefore, how everyone goes about it is definitely different for each person. But find a moment where you can take a breather to come back to center with yourself. That can be taking 10 seconds to take 3 deep breaths. Taking a weekend get away, or go completely off grid if you need it. It is important to recharge yourself to be ready to face any test in life, and be able to maintain a clear mind to handle it correctly.

2. Goals

A focused mindset should be followed by goals that give you direction to go in. The only reason I don't believe your focus should be to reach a Focused mindset mentioned above instead of a goal is because goals can always be adjusted and changed as time passes. But with a Focused Mindset, your goals are even easier to attain. Goals can be anything you set your mind to, whether is getting a new place, saving funds for something, or even as simple as accomplishing on a weekly basis that you can say to yourself I accomplished something and be proud of it.

i. Plan

Planning is where any goal should begin. Following steps that you coordinate ahead will help keep you on track and know where you are at in the process. An amazing way to start this plan is to write everything down about where you want to reach and accomplish. Then start organizing things in more specific areas sort of like a road map. As you expand your plan you will get a clearer understanding of where to begin, where to go next, and what the end game is.

ii. Time Management

This point in my opinion is one of the most important. The reason being is because it is a fact that there are only so many hours in a day. If you do not prioritize and plan out your day and follow it, makes it even more difficult to stay on track. Time Management can be accomplished in any calendar. Plan out your day of when it is time to work and personal time. What days you will work on certain things and days that you will focus on others. This will provide you time and organization to get everything done.

iii. Stay Focused

With the amount of interruptions there are everyday, staying focused is even more difficult. Just think of what you have to do tomorrow. I am sure you can relate. Finding ways to stay focused is important. Meditate, turn off your phone if it is too distracting, and find places and people to be around that keep you focused. Having a support system that helps elevate you to where you want to be is an extremely important step to take.

“Having a support system that helps elevate you to where you want to be is an extremely important step to take.”

3. Self Discipline

As great as it is to have an amazing support system, someone to hold your hand and do things for you, that is just not the reality of the world. Even when you have that support system, Self.....accountability, reflection, prioritize, care, love, self anything is even more important. Why? Because those moments, that you are alone, that your friend is not there to lend an ear, when you have no one but yourself, are the times where we most forget about ourselves, because when we are alone, that is when we think of everything else that you can imagine. Self Discipline during these moments is what will help make you or break you. Remember, no one else around you is going to change until you change, your situation will never change no matter how many people help you unless, you change. As you can see it all goes back to self.

“As you can see it all goes back to self.”

i. Self Accountability

Self Accountability Can mean different things for different people. For me, it means knowing my responsibilities and what I need to get done. To me it means holding myself accountable for being honest at all times. Saying I am sorry when it is needed to be said.

ii. Self Reflection

Self Reflection is about understanding more of yourself. Things you like to do, how you would like to reflect yourself to others, your own purpose and self identity, and who you want around you. When you self reflect you get answers that help you on your journey of achieving full potential.

iii. Self Prioritize

Self Prioritize I left last for a reason. We forget at times that no one will ever care about us more then ourselves. You need to always no matter what prioritize yourself first. Your body is your temple, your mind is how you perceive the world and others, understand it and take care of it and prioritizing yourself will help you achieve Full Potential because in the end it is YOUR FULL POTENTIAL.

With a Focused Mindset, Goals and Self Discipline, you will be able to achieve your FULL POTENTIAL!

As always, sending positive vibes your way 🙏
